Safety Plan - A
Get Out Now

This Domestic Violence Safety Plan "A" - Is to help you get out now. Read this through several times, so that you have it memorized.

SUCCESS is getting you and your kids out alive.

If you have to call the police and leave, this domestic violence safety plan will help you collect all the important items you and your children will need for the next few days. Whether, or not your abuser is arrested, the police can escort you to a safe place.

Think of a safe place to go if an argument starts. I recommend a friend OF A FRIEND, or a shelter. Make sure your safe place is not with someone your abuser knows, or could be jealous of. You do not want to make the situation worse, or put other lives in danger.

Memorize phone numbers of safe people you can call. Keep a “safe” cell phone, or money to make a telephone call with you at all times. Enlist the help of someone you can trust; family member, friend, co-worker... again not someone your abuser could be jealous of.

Make a code word – so that your helper will know two (2) things:
(A) that you have to leave now, and
(B) that if you don't call within a certain time, the helper is to call the police.

Pack An Emergency Bag (1 bag if at all possible):
one change of clothes for each of you and your kids,
medicines,
checkbook and cash,
credit cards – use only if it is in your name alone and if the abuser doesn't have access to the account,
Banking Information, and
emergency documents , there is a purpose and need for each of the items on this list.

At a glance, the most important documents needed are:
Identification Paperwork (birth certificates, Passports) for you and your children.
Court Papers (Police Reports, Restraining Orders...)
Take pictures of damage/injury if possible with you
Journal/Dairy of Abuse – domestic violence proof Car Keys - ONLY if there is no tracking attached to your car like a GPS. If you don't have a safe car, get a ride. Go immediately to your county court house and get a restraining order to protect you and your kids.
