Surviving Domestic Violence EncouragementEveryone surviving domestic violence needs encouragement. It is amazing how easy it is to lose our self esteem and confidence in the midst of abuse, threats, and constant uncertainty. Your abuser verbally, and physically makes withdrawls from your “self esteem bank”. If you have lost your self esteem and confidence, don't worry! This feeling is temporary, just like your domestic violence situation. I want to encourage you while you are surviving your domestic violence situation. It is so important for you to take care of yourself emotionally and spiritually everyday to keep your "self esteem bank" full. It is much easier to make healthy decisions when we are mentally and emotionally healthy. I have a dear friend, Pastor David Katina, who is a gifted encourager, pastor, speaker, and story teller. With his permission, I am including several of his notes as encouragement to you. I hope you enjoy these as much as I have. As you read some of Dave's encouragement, please know that these notes weren't specifically written for victims of domestic violence. At the same time, I highly recommend reading, “Partners or Predators?”, “Stop Surviving! Start Thriving!”, “A Season Called “After””, and “Created From Dust, but Destined to Reign”. I am also including "Wachoolookinat?" (what you looking at?) and “Invictus Dreamers”. When God created you, it was because He wants to have a relationship with you. If your creator wants to know you and spend time with you, then you must be someone wonderful!! There is only one you, and if you don't love yourself, you won't expect love from anyone else. Take time to love yourself again. I hope you feel encouraged as you read through these pages. As you move forward, only you will know when it is safe to leave your domestic violence situation. Please be careful and get professional counseling and legal advice as soon as possible. Remember the YWCA/YMCA have great programs and assistance if you need help. You can also contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline, or call 1-800-799-7233. Please be safe!! Go to surviving-domestic-violence.org from surviving domestic violence encouragement |
